What are red flags for hip pain?
If you are experiencing any of the symptoms below, you should present to your hospital emergency ward to rule out serious conditions.
Top tip: Take stock of your hip pain. Use the VAS pain scale, where 0 is no pain and 10/10 is a severe unrelenting pain. Monitor sharp hip pain from onset to be sure it is not worsening over time, especially when you are not being active.
If you notice the following please present to your local hospital ER
-
Persistent hip pain where the patient has a history of cancer
-
Hip pain with unexplained weight loss
-
New sensations of numbness tingling or weakness
-
Sudden restricted movement with no apparent cause, and fever and fatigue are also red flags for hip pain.
If the hip sharp pain is associated with a loss of range of movement or strength then early intervention by a health professional such as a physiotherapist will optimise your recovery outcome.
